Mobile Outlook app for iOS and Android blocked from 1 February 2017
Leiden University has decided to block the Outlook app from 1 February 2017. The Outlook application on your pc will function as usual. Want to access your work mail on your mobile device? Then please use the standard email app.
The popular Microsoft Outlook app for iOS and Android appears to temporarily store employee data on servers in the United States. This concerns login data, emails including attachments, calendar and contacts. This is a safety risk, that is not in line with the information policy of Leiden University.
The blocking only affects employee email via the Outlook app on mobile devices. The Outlook application on your pc will function as usual. To access your work mail on your mobile device, please use the standard email app. You can find information about how to synchronise your mobile device in the manuals for iOS and Android.
You can delete the Outlook app in two easy steps:
First, delete the account(s) that you configured within the Outlook app. This deletes all data from the app and from the external server in the US. The data on the emailserver of the university of course remains intact.
Then, delete the app from your phone or tablet.
Repeat these steps on all devices where you use the Outlook app for university email.
