The Municipality of Leiden and Expat Centre Leiden are happy to invite you to a free seminar on the Dutch education system. During this seminar Annebet van Mameren from New2nl will explain all you need to know about the Dutch education system. She will discuss the level of Dutch education compared to other Western countries, the differences in educational philosophies (Montessori, Dalton, Waldorf, etc.), preschool, secondary school, international schools, after-school care, and much more. The 3 October festival is an annual festival in Leiden. The festival commemorates the anniversary of the 1573–1574 Siege of Leiden, during the Eighty Years' War, when the Spanish Army attempted to capture the city. The city centre of Leiden will be the stage of a variety of events such as a funfair and market. The festival usually starts a day or two before the main event itself. Leiden university will be closed on 3 October.
We are aware that for you as an international staff member living in The Netherlands can have its challenges, especially when it comes to Dutch tax/financial issues. A very good way to enjoy the hightlights of The Hague from coast to city centre. In 14 possible stops you can discover The Hague by a historic tram. As of July 2016 the Tourist tram will operate on Saturdays en Sundays in the summer months. The trans runs every half hour between 9:30 and 17:30.

The Flower Parade: a splendid floral procession in August. The procession will set off from Rijnsburg on Saturday 13 August, and will travel through Katwijk to Noordwijk. On Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August the floats will be on display at the Koningin Wilhelmina Boulevard in Noordwijk. From 18.30 hrs. the procession will be expected to arrive in Noordwijk.

Learn to speak, write and understand basic Dutch, with this free, three-week, introductory foreign language course.
This course is aimed at people with no prior knowledge of the Dutch language, who have a strong interest in learning languages. It will give you a taste of language skills that will help you to survive in Dutch-speaking countries. The main focus will be on receptive skills like reading and listening.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- introduce yourself and get to know other learners
- talk about your family, friends, work and study
- write short texts such as an email or fill in forms with personal details.

University of Groningen Language Centre
The course will be taught in English by lecturers of Dutch and English from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.

Two great Dutch specialities, growing flowers and canal-faring, come together in three day long floating procession across the region of Westland. During the Westland Flower Parade more than 50 boats decorated with flowers and vegetables will passing by for your viewing pleasure.

From 20 July until 28 August the Hortus botanicus will be the setting for the annual Hortus Festival. The musical festival that is held in five botanical gardens through The Netherlands will focus on the music of America, The New World. Tickets will be on sale from 1 July on. The entire programme will be announced also on 1 July.

“Vlaggetjesdag (Flag Day)” that's how this particular day of shore reaching of the herring fleet is officially called.
Various activities around the second harbor of Scheveningen (coast area The Hague) such as puppet theatre, beach Soccer, eating herring, taptoe, old crafts and musical performances.

Schemerstad (Dusk City) is a theatrical event in Leiden on 13, 14 and 15 May. The audience sits in open boats and sails from one performance to the next. With the city as a backdrop artists from diverse disciplines show how they have been inspired by their surroundings. Dance, mime, projection, many forms of theatre are represented.
De Liberation Day Festival takes place on May 5. You are welcome on Malieveld between 12.00 and 23.00 hours for free concerts by international artists.
