Buying a house

Before starting the process of finding a house to buy, make sure to contact a bank or mortgage broker to determine your ability to take out a mortgage, the possible mortgage amount and the related monthly expenses.

When buying a house
- Engage an agent that can assist in finding a house and advise on complicated matters.
- Keep in mind that purchase prices exclude furniture, carpeting and possibly appliances. Make sure to reach a clear agreement on which items are included in the purchase.
- Generally, buying a house comes with a deposit of around 10% of the purchase price, arranged through a bank guarantee issued by a Dutch banking institution. This deposit is arranged by the bank or mortgage broker and may be part of the financing agreement.
- The purchase transaction will cost you an additional 6%, representing a variety of taxes and commissions.
