What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is the European subsidy programme for the stimulation of education, training, youth and sports. It offers divers opportunities for requesting subsidies for exchange and international education projects.

For the period 2014-2020 fifteen billion euros have been reserved by the European Commission.


Programme components

The Erasmus+ programme comprises the following three key actions: 

• Key Action 1: Mobility
 
 
 o Mobility of students and staff in Europe  
 o Mobility of students and staff outside Europe  
 o Erasmus Mundus joint Master degrees

• Key Action 2: Strategic partnerships
 
 
o Strategic partnerships 
 o Knowledge alliances and sector skills alliances 
 o Capacity building in the field of higher education

Key Action 3: Policy development

Key action 1 includes Erasmus student grants and joint programmes. Since 2015 it has also been possible to apply for Erasmus grants for exchanges with institutions outside Europe.

Key action 2 concerns collaboration projects that have as their goal the improvement and innovation of education in Europe. This action comprises the following subsidy options: strategic partnerships (sectoral or multi-sector), knowledge alliances (with business) and capacity building (modernising education in partner countries).
